How a good diet pyramid helped a 90 years old man to climb a 3.000 meters Mountain

Last day I saw a video on a man: Piero Paci that climbed a 3.000 meters Mountain the “Gran Sasso” in Abruzzi, Italy.

This story was amazing because this is the first man in world to do this. A real Guinness.

This man was in good health and body conditions, he reached the top of the Mountain in 3 hours.

I heard its interview after the climb and 2 things have attracted my attention:

  1. He practices regular cycling exercises

  2. He follows the Mediterranean diet principles

During the interview he talked about his nutrition behaviors:

  • Low red meat

  • A glass of wine a day

  • Pasta, bread and legumes

  • Always fresh salad with olive oil during the main meals

  • Fruit

Why the Mediterranean diet help him to live an healthier life?

The first thing to consider is that this diet is poor in Saturated fats (present in red meats) and rich of fibers and anti oxidants that help to contrast the free radicals and help reduce blood pressure and increase the arteries cleaning.

The main foods of this diet are red and oranges vegetables and fruits (carrots, oranges, tomatoes) and olive oil. These foods are rich of Beta carotene and Poli-phenols. The Olive Oil has tremendous health properties because it’s rich of Mono-unsaturated fats that reduce the cholesterol

But the main evidence on this fact is the research on the Improvement of the longevity of the population of Crete conduced by Dr. Trichopoulou

And you? Do you think you can arrive to live 100 years?
