Childhood obesity is a disease rapidly increasing. The main reasons are the unhealthy lifestyle, poor eating habits and low physical activity.
There is also another reason behind the fatty tissue located mostly on the waist: a lack of vitamin D.
In support, a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and conducted by researchers at University of Michigan led by Eduardo Villamor.
The research involved 479 children for 30 months in Bogota, Colombia, from 5 to 12 years. Experts have noted that lower levels of vitamin D were associated with more rapid weight gain and a greater tendency to accumulate abdominal fat, a risk factor for many diseases in adulthood.
